YOUR INFORMATION
Privacy policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
Your football records belong on your device. This policy explains the limited information GRYFT processes to provide support, run this website and improve the app — and the choices you have.
1. Who is responsible?
GRYFT is operated by Martin Roy Ledgard, trading as GRYFT, in the United Kingdom. Martin is the data controller for personal information processed to operate GRYFT’s usage statistics, website and support service. Contact martin@gryft.uk with privacy questions or requests.
2. Football information on your device
The app stores the information you enter locally, including team and player names, team organisation, match details, scores, events, participation, awards, notes and any saved venue names or coordinates. You do not need a GRYFT account. Core match tracking works offline.
GRYFT does not upload these detailed football records to a GRYFT account or cloud synchronisation service. The usage summaries described below contain counts and categories derived from your records, rather than their names or contents.
You control the records on your device. Editing or deleting a team or player does not necessarily remove names preserved in historical match records. Manage the relevant match history as well. Deleting the app removes its local app data, but does not cancel an Apple subscription or delete separately saved backups. Device backups may retain app data according to your Apple or computer backup settings.
If you use the app’s backup features, you choose where an exported file is saved or shared. A backup can contain personal football information, including names, notes and saved locations. Protect it and share it only with appropriate people. Your chosen storage or sharing provider processes it under its own terms. We cannot remotely access or erase your local records or exported files.
3. Location, maps and notifications
If you choose to use your current location to save a team venue or match location, the app requests iOS location permission. It does not continuously track your movements or request background location access. You can decline or change permission in iOS Settings, and continue tracking matches.
Maps and directions use Apple services, which may process map requests, coordinates and technical information under Apple’s privacy policy. Saved coordinates are excluded from GRYFT usage summaries.
Optional half-time and full-time reminders use local iOS notifications. Live Activities can display team nicknames, colours, score and the clock on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, where others with sight of your device may see them. You control notification permissions and Live Activities through the app’s available settings and iOS.
4. Purchases
Apple handles subscriptions, match-credit purchases and payment details. The app uses Apple-provided purchase and entitlement information to verify access, restore purchases and manage credits. We do not receive your payment-card details. Usage statistics include your current access category and available credit count, but not purchase transaction identifiers or payment details. Apple may separately provide sales and financial reports to us as the developer.
5. Usage statistics and your choice
Usage statistics help us understand which features are useful and improve GRYFT. They are enabled by default in supported releases, including TestFlight. You can object at any time, free of charge, by turning off Settings → Usage Statistics → Share usage statistics.
When enabled, the app periodically sends a current summary containing:
- A random installation identifier and information about when the summary was created and updated.
- Aggregate team, player, match and event counts, match formats and durations, and whether features such as notes, saved venues or player tracking are present. The notes and locations themselves are not sent.
- Counts of app openings and openings attributed to a Live Activity.
- Current app settings, notification and Live Activity availability, backup freshness, subscription/access status and available match credits.
- Limited device and app context, such as hardware model, operating-system and app versions, distribution channel, text-size category and Reduce Motion setting.
Summaries do not contain team or player names, their identifiers, match identifiers, venue names, coordinates, notes, custom profile labels, squad numbers, purchase transaction identifiers, device names, advertising identifiers or free-form error messages. The installation identifier allows summaries from the same installation to be linked, so this information is pseudonymous, not fully anonymous.
The app can send a summary on an eligible foreground opening, then on a later opening or return from the background when at least an hour has passed since the last successful upload. Delivery is best-effort; it does not require the match clock to wait or prevent offline use. Summaries reflect retained records, including imported history, rather than a stream of individual match events.
Turning sharing off stops new usage summaries and app-opening counts from being collected, cancels any upload in progress and discards summaries waiting to be sent. Information already received by us cannot be recalled. Previously received information follows the retention rules below; switching off is not an immediate deletion request.
If you turn sharing back on, collection resumes on a subsequent eligible app opening. Openings while sharing was off are not backfilled. A new summary still includes totals from all football records currently stored, including records created while sharing was off. Importing a football backup does not change your sharing choice.
We use cloud service providers to securely receive, store and analyse usage statistics. App verification services help protect against unauthorised submissions using installation-linked identifiers and security information. Reports are used for aggregate product statistics, not advertising, cross-app tracking or decisions about individual players. We do not sell personal information.
6. This website and support email
We use a website hosting provider to deliver and secure this site. It processes technical information about visits, including IP addresses. Our pages do not use analytics or advertising cookies or tracking scripts.
If you email us, we receive your email address, message and anything you choose to attach. Our email service provider processes this correspondence so we can receive and respond to it. Please avoid sending children’s names, precise locations or complete backups unless necessary for your request. We use correspondence to respond, resolve problems and maintain appropriate support records.
7. Why we process information
We rely on our legitimate interests in understanding and improving GRYFT for usage statistics, and in operating a reliable, secure service for necessary website and security information. Our use of statistics is limited to service improvement, with an accessible Settings opt-out. We rely on the UK statistical-purpose exception for the associated device storage and access, subject to its requirements; this is separate from our UK GDPR lawful basis.
For support, we rely on performing our contract with you where needed to provide the service you requested, or our legitimate interests in answering enquiries and resolving issues. We may retain or disclose information where necessary to meet a legal obligation. We do not treat reading this policy or continuing to use the app as consent.
8. Retention
- Local football records: remain under your control on your device and in any backups you keep.
- Usage summaries and app verification information: we keep the latest summary for each installation, replacing it when a newer one is received. This information expires after 90 days without a newer accepted summary. Removal from storage and reporting copies may take additional time after expiry; restricted backup copies are retained for the service provider’s recovery period.
- Security and service records: technical records for the usage statistics service may include IP addresses and connection details, and are normally retained for 30 days. Our website hosting provider separately retains IP information for a few months.
- Support messages: normally deleted within 12 months after resolution. Information needed for a legal obligation or dispute may be kept for longer, for that purpose only.
9. Service providers and international processing
Access is limited to the operator and service providers who need information to deliver the services described above. These include website hosting, cloud storage and analysis, email and app verification providers. Google provides our website hosting and cloud statistics services. Apple provides app verification and the platform services described above, under its own terms. Information may also be disclosed where required by law.
We use UK-based hosting for usage statistics where supported. Some service provider operations and support activities may take place outside the UK. Where providers transfer personal information internationally, applicable contractual safeguards or recognised adequacy arrangements are used. You can contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data.
10. Children and youth football
GRYFT is designed for parents and adult team organisers, and football records may relate to children. Record only what you need, ensure you have an appropriate basis to keep and share it, and take care with notes, backups and Lock Screen information. The usage summaries do not include children’s names, precise locations or individual player records. Please do not send children’s information to support unless it is needed.
11. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal information we hold about you, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email martin@gryft.uk. We normally respond within one month; if a permitted extension is needed, we will explain why.
We do not have an account directory linking your name or email to an installation identifier. If your request concerns usage statistics, we may need proportionate additional information to locate the relevant record. Please contact us first rather than sending a full football backup. We will explain what we can identify and what action we can take. We cannot remotely alter data held only on your device.
You can also complain directly to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. You do not have to contact us first.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. Material changes affecting your choices will also be communicated appropriately in the app. Questions are welcome at martin@gryft.uk.
